A Simple, Beautiful Solution

02 October 2019 09:00

A simple design, beautifully executed can make all the difference to a room.

Here a clear transom light has been replaced with a design using blue jewel bevels and clear diamond bevels on stippolyte glass, hand finished with antiqued lead.

Our Lead Designer begins by creating the design. A simple design, like this one, is created by hand. For more complicated designs he uses a computer aided design system.

The paper design is laid on a light bench (that's a work bench with an integrated light-box) and the glass, which has been cut to size in our factory, is laid on top.

The bevels are glued in position first - if you look carefully at the photo, you will see that stippolyte glass underneath the bevels appears to be clear, making the bevels shine out even more.

Once the bevels are in place, the lead is added to enclose them and to create the grid. A second, matching set of lead is then added on the reverse of the glass.

Now the completed glass is ready to be installed, either directly into place, as in this design, or as a part of a sealed unit.
